Some of My Work

There you have it! This is some of my work. I love so many styles of makeup from dark and chic to colorful and fun! Photo shoots are something I do all the time. I love bringing an idea to the table and seeing it in photographs.

Most of my shoots are with my best friend! Here is her page: 60's Mod Fox

Enjoy the photos!!

Nice to Meet You

Hello.

My name is Alicia Hathaway. I am twenty-two and I live in sunny California! I have an enormous love for makeup. Let me tell you my story of how I ended up right here typing this blog!

I was a cute kid, huh?! I am the gangster bunny of course. I grew up on the central coast of California. The weather is very nice 90% of the time. My town is 20 minutes from the beach and surrounded by nothing but beautiful scenery. Growing up; I was always the tom-boy in my class. I had the slick pony tail, t-shirt, torn jeans and almost always on a bicycle. Needless to say; I was PRETTY good at sports. I was in cross-country, track and field, swimming, dancing, cheerleading, marching band .. etc. OH! and I was pro-status at kick ball.. Just sayin'.
I am hugely into video games. That was me when I was 14 playing World of Warcraft.. Yep. Nerd. My first video game was Mario Kart on the Nintendo '64. I miss that game to this day. :( Now-a-days I am dedicated to PlayStation and computer games!

I LOVE MUSIC. Whenever someone asks me what kind of music I like, I respond with "good music." It's true. I really like good music. I'm seeing The Black Keys soon!! HAPPY LEESHA! Concerts are so dear to me. I love the atmosphere and of course, if I like the band, it just makes it THAT much better. : ) I was raised on classic rock and that is where my heart lies. My favorite band is by far Led Zeppelin. Don't even try asking me what my favorite song of their's is. There is no way I can choose just one..two.. not even top ten!

THIS was me in high school. I know.. I know.. I was that cool. I sported studs, chains and freaking awesome band shirts. And yes. Those boots are pretty rad. You may be wondering how this studly woman with black eyeliner became a makeup artist.

Let me tell you this: I have always been a huge movie buff. I quote everything from Ghostbusters to The Matrix ALL THE TIME. It can get pretty annoying.

My favorite TV show growing up was (and possibly still is) Buffy The Vampire Slayer. This show really was the start of my fascination of makeup. The first time I saw a morphed vampire, was when I started to think about the makeup aspect of film. I wanted to know HOW all of that magic happened behind camera.

Before I get into all of that makeup stuff, I'd like to talk about why I wanted to become a MUA (Makeup Artist.) After high school, I had zero idea on what I wanted to become. I was in that whole "WHO AM I?" stage. Since I didn't know what to study, I went to community college and worked on general ed. A year and a half passed and I was getting frustrated because I still didn't know what I wanted to end up doing. One day my mom told me to do something that would make me happy. That made me think a bit.. I can seriously get a job where it wouldn't feel like work? This made me think back to the day when I first saw Buffy and all of the prosthetic work. There had to be someone doing all of that behind the scenes. That was someone's job. Finally I went with my gut and decided that I wanted to become a makeup artist.

In February of 2011, I decided to pack my bags and head to Los Angeles to attend Make-Up Designory! This was obviously a huge leap for me. All alone in the big, scary city. I managed. :p  It took me seven months to complete the Masters Program. I even have a fancy little diploma! All during that time, I grew and immersed myself in the world of makeup artistry. I learned straight forward beauty, avante garde, hair styling, prosthetic makeup and prosthetic making! After graduating, I spent the next nine months freelancing in LA. That city definitely has a lot of cool makeup jobs that I got to participate in!

Since then, I have moved back to the central coast of California. I just can't stay away from this place. It's open space, fresh air and atmosphere will always capture my attention. Let's face it.. I'm not a big city girl and I am fine with that!

  (Michelle: Left, Me: Right)
I work with my best friend (and accomplished photographer) Michelle Roller. We have been friends since junior high! As it goes, I got down on one knee and asked her to be my best friend. Naturally, she said yes. Who can turn me down? If I were to say one thing about her, it would be that she has a big heart. Her love of animals never ceases to make me smile. She has an uncanny eye for color, light, fashion and photography. Her style is all her own and no one can even compare to it! I definitely turn to her when I need some good ol' fashion advice. She has stunning photography. We work very well together. Her images capture my makeup beautifully and my makeup compliments her photos nicely. We are the dream team and you betta' believe it! Check out her photography page! It also turns out that she is a supreme blogger!! She is a gorgeous 60's vintage lady.

Another one of my best friends is Bibbles! We have been friends since my freshman year of high school. He was the bass player and I was a trombone player in our school band! If you take the funniest person you know and times that by 4, you've got Bibbles. He is definitely one of the funniest people I know. You never know what he is going to say but when he does, I literally laugh out loud. His love is music. He immerses himself in music and I am constantly impressed by the things he does to be an accomplished musician. Bibbles studied recording arts in college.. How cool is that?! He is inspiration for me because he is such a hard worker and I appreciate him as my best friend very much. : )

Now this guy is quite special. He is Michael and he is my very handsome boy friend and another one of my best friends. Our story is kind of funny. We were best friends in elementary school. Remember how I said I was a tom-boy? Well I used to school him at basketball! [(He might say something different like 'he actually beat me in sports' but don't believe him ; ) ] He was definitely one of my best friends back then until he moved away to a different city in California. After that we kind of lost touch. Many years later and after growing up a bit, I got in contact with him! We started talking and as it turned out, he was still the same guy I knew but older! ..and nerdy. As it turned out, he went to a convention known as Fanime. It's held in San Jose every year and it show cases anime artists and everything nerdy! (Which is pretty much me.) I had always wanted to go, but never had anyone to go with. It was a few days before the convention and I decided to be spontaneous and head north to San Jose to attend! When I got there, we hit it off like we had never stopped hanging out. He is everything I have ever wanted in someone and more! I can honestly say that we are very good for one another. I have butterflies just typing about him..

This stunning feline is named Xena. She is very much named after the warrior princess. (Also this photo and my header photo is taken by my best friend Michelle Roller. I told you she was good...) Xena is a love of my life. She is currently two and a half years of age! As a kitty, she stole my heart with her quirkiness and gorgeous features. Her personality meshes so well with mine. I adore her so much. She is always there to cheer me up and give me a good laugh. She is my cuddle bunny. ^.^ Whenever I am doing makeup, she is always interested in what I am doing!

I decided to start a blog to compliment my youtube tutorial page! I'll be posting videos and pictures of my makeup. I hope to meet others with the same passion and interests as me.

It was very nice meeting you. <3
